Detection of MMP9 release from monocytes. (A) Peptide Gly-Pro-Leu-Gly-Met-Trp-Ser-Arg-Cys is assembled on Au surface and is subject to MMP9 mediated cleavage between Gly and Met. (B) An individual cell sensing site, consisting of an electrode with redox-labeled peptide, Abs for cell capture and nonfouling PEG hydrogel. (C) Monocytes become captured on Ab-modified regions and release protease molecules upon activation.
