Stem cross sections of five T-DNA mutant lines presenting either hypo or hyperlignified SCWs. Sections of wild-type plant and T-DNA mutants were observed under UV light (A–F) or stained with phloroglucinol-HCl (G–L). Phloem cap cells and ectopic lignification in epidermal cells are indicated by blue and pink arrows, respectively.
