Pilocarpine (60 mg/kg; s.c.) was administered to induce seizures on day 10 (n = 30 in each group). Lithium chloride (3 meq/kg; i.p.) and methylscopolamine (25 mg/kg; s.c.) were injected 18–20 h and 30 min before the pilocarpine injection, respectively [12]. Twenty-four hours after pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus (day 11), acute pathological study on neuronal loss was performed (n = 5 in each group). Twenty-eight days after status epilepticus (day 39), chronic pathological study on mossy fiber sprouting was performed (n = 5 in each group).
