Results of the pilot test. Results confirmed that the phrases in the IM, EM, and Neutral conditions produced their intended effects. That is, the phrases in the IM condition were rated as higher in IM and as lower in EM than were the phrases in the EM condition (A). Further, the phrases in the IM and EM conditions were rated similarly high in terms of behavioral energization (B) and positive valence (C) and both were rated as higher than were the phrases in the Neutral condition. *P < 0.05.
