X-rays scattered by fibrillar collagen form a scattering pattern on a detector behind the specimen. The WAXS angular intensity profile yields information on collagen orientation. The length of a particular vector in the resulting polar plot is indicative of the number of fibrils preferentially aligned in the vector direction.
