Immunohistochemical detection of adenosine A_2A receptors in isolated pial arterioles. In the presence of anti-A_2A receptor (green) or anti-eNOS (red) antibodies, high levels of immunostaining were detected in the endothelium and smooth muscle for A_2A receptors (A_2AR) and in the endothelium for eNOS. The merged image shows overlap staining (yellow) in the endothelial layer. White arrowheads denote endothelial cells and arrows denote vascular smooth muscle cells.
