Model of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor–rapsyn network. Receptors are tightly packed and are interconnected by rapsyn dimers. Up to three rapsyn dimers contact each receptor in specific locations at its base. The interconnecting arms of individual rapsyn molecules lie below the intracellular entrances of the receptor channels (arrows), leaving unrestricted submembrane space within which ions can freely diffuse.
