cagA expression was analyzed by microarray using the probe designed against cagA for H. pylori J99 (889201). For each strain, the cagA signal was calculated for three independent biological samples, and the average and SD of the normalized and logged values are presented. The Spearman correlation is 0.83, indicating a positive relationship between cagA expression and the histopathological score.
H. pylori strains were isolated from regions of Colombia with either high or low risk for the development of gastric cancer.
MLST analysis (26) was previously used to characterize the ancestral origin of the H. pylori strains.
