HP: Hematoxylin & Eosin (H&E; structural damage). IHC: 8-hydroxydiguanosine (8-OHDG; DNA-oxidation), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β; key factor in development of lung fibrosis), hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α; alpha subunit of the transcription factor responsible for VEGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (A) (VEGF (A); growth factor responsible for angiogenesis and endothelial leakage, regulated by HIF-1), ED-1 (ED-1 antibody for CD 68 antigen in activated rat macrophages).
