Paths “a” and “b” combined to comprise a mediational pathway to explain the indirect effect by which in path “c” (the effect of baseline prior affect on experimental session current urge) operates. The arrows from the deprivation variable (deprived vs. nondeprived) to each of the pathways (depicted by broken lines; “d” and “e”) illustrate that deprivation is considered a moderator that potentially amplifies the strength of each affect-urge path.
