STS transcription (B) and concentrations of the stilbene glucosides astringin (C) and isorhapontin (D) were measured in Norway spruce saplings after inoculation and infection by two C. polonica isolates and after control wounding treatment (inoculation with sterile agar). Error bars represent se (n = 5). Significant differences were detected between 14 and 28 d after treatment for both fungus-infected and wounded control saplings (P < 0.005).
