Comparison of the area under the curves of different Ca2+ kinetics. (A) Transmission and fluorescence image of a lamina I neuron labeled with the Ca2+-sensitive dye fura-2. (B) Area under the curves of Ca2+ kinetics elicited by LTP inducing stimulations (black bars) were compared with the area under the curves of Ca2+ signals induced by stimuli leading to no potentiation (open bars). There were no significant differences in the magnitude of Ca2+ levels after stimulation protocols that induced LTP and those that did not induce LTP (P > .05 by Kruskal-Wallis 1-way ANOVA on ranks).
