Cleavage of eIF4GI and eIF4GII occurs simultaneously within FMDV-infected cells. BHK cells were infected with FMDV. (A) At the indicated times (hours postinfection) cells were incubated with ³⁵S-labeled amino acids for a further 15 min. Cell extracts were prepared and analyzed by SDS-PAGE (10% polyacrylamide) and autoradiography. (B and C) Cells infected in parallel were harvested at the indicated times, and cell extracts were analyzed by SDS-PAGE (6% polyacrylamide) and immunoblotting with rabbit polyclonal antibodies specific for eIF4GI (B) and eIF4GII (C) as described in Materials and Methods. Detection was achieved using peroxidase-labeled anti-rabbit antibodies and chemiluminescence reagents. The mobilities of molecular mass standards (kilodaltons) are indicated.
