Nonsynchronous CSs can inhibit CN activity. CS–CN correlograms compiled using either all CSs recorded from one PC (A) or only those CSs that were not synchronized with CSs in any of the other 29 PCs that were simultaneously recorded (B). To obtain the subset of nonsynchronous CSs, the spike train was compared with those of the other recorded PCs, and any spikes that occurred at the same millisecond were removed. This resulted in removal of 44% of the CSs in this PC. The recording session was 20 min.
