Effects of increased syllable load during encoding: oscillatory power contrast between second and first set of syllables on four-syllable trials. Figure layout follows Figure 2. Time 0 marks third/first syllable onset; fourth/second syllable onset occurs at ∼520 ms. Low frequency (θ, α, and β) power was attenuated from the first to third syllable and the second to fourth syllable bilaterally over auditory and premotor areas.
