In addition to the WT (A), complete E1/E2 spike complex models were created for the 71-77 mutant (B), each mutant in which an amino acid was individually mutated to alanine, 71A, 74A, and 77A (C, D, and E, respectively), and the natural variants 71T (F), 71Q (G), and 72K (H), as in Fig. 6B, and the portion of the E1/E2 complex boxed in yellow was magnified approximately 2-fold. Mutant or variant amino acid substitutions are indicated with magenta letters/numbers, and bars and WT residues are indicated as in Fig. 6.
