The bursa and body weights of all chickens were determined, and BBIX at different days post-infection was calculated with standard deviation (BBIX = (bursa:body-weight ratios)/(bursa:body-weight ratios in the negative group)). Bursa with a BBIX of less than 0.70 were considered atrophied. Average titers and standard deviations (error bars) from three independent samples are shown. Treatments sharing different lowercase letter differ significantly at a confidence level (P<0.05).
