Table 1.
The effect of naringenin on the production of colonic TNF-α and IL-6 in dextran sulphate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis mice‡
(Mean values and standard deviations of triplicates of two independent experiments)
TNF-α (pg/mg protein) |
IL-6 (pg/mg protein) |
|||
---|---|---|---|---|
Group | Mean | sd | Mean | sd |
Vehicle | 20·8 | 1·9 | 34·8 | 3·7 |
Naringenin | 27·7 | 2·5 | 41·1 | 2·6 |
DSS+vehicle | 184·3† | 16·1 | 244·7† | 13·8 |
DSS+naringenin | 79·4*** | 6·8 | 112·9** | 11·4 |
Mean values were significantly different compared with the DSS-treated group:
P<0·01,
P<0·001.
Mean values were significantly different compared with the vehicle-treated group (P<0·001).
Segments of mid-colon samples from mice (n 6 per group) were excised and homogenised. The supernatants were assayed for the determination of the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 using the ELISA method (R&D Systems).
