Effect of wortmannin and hypertonic shock on intercellular coupling. Wortmannin treatment for 60 min significantly reduced intercellular coupling at 20 μmol/L, but had no effect at 0.5 μmol/L. Hypertonic shock for 10 min increased intercellular coupling, and this effect was prevented by wortmannin (20 μmol/L, 5 min pre-incubation and during hypertonic shock). Incubation with wortmannin (20 μmol/L) alone for 15 min had no effect on intercellular coupling. N indicates number of experiments in each group.
