Distribution of NTBI according to the presence or absence of NTA prior to filtration. Total NTBI is that measured when NTA is added prior to filtration. “Free” NTBI is that measured when NTA is added following filtration. “Loosely bound” is the difference between total and “free”. Data are presented as the mean±SD (n=13). The percentage of total iron in the various pools is given in parentheses.
