Experimental data include platelet concentrations in the whole blood, upper layer, and upper layer plus buffy coat, as well as the volume of the upper layer. Calculated parameters include the platelet concentration factor, the packing of the red blood cells in the bottom layer, and the platelet and plasma recovery efficiencies as a function of centrifugal acceleration.

G, centrifugal acceleration; N(Pt)WB, number of platelets per unit volume in whole blood; N(Pt)UL, number of platelets per unit volume in the upper layer; N(Pt)LP+BC, number of platelets per unit volume in the upper layer + buffy coat; VUL, volume of the upper layer; FC(UL), platelet concentration factor; HBL, packing of the red blood cells in the bottom layer; E(Pl)UL and E(Pt)UL, plasma and platelet recovery efficiencies, respectively.
