(A) Neuronal precursors are generated in the subventricular zone (SVZ) around the lateral ventricle and migrate to the OB via a specific route called the rostral migratory stream (RMS). (B) In the OB, neuronal precursors differentiate into GCs. Their apical dendrites form synaptic contacts with lateral dendrites of mitral cells. (C) Adult-born GCs are visualized by retrovirus-mediated GFP expression (green). GFP-expressing retrovirus was injected in the SVZ and the OB was analyzed 28 days after the injection.
