LCA and 5-azadC show synergistic effects on the activation of methylated genes. MCF-7 breast cancer cells were treated with the indicated compound, total RNA was isolated, and qRT-PCR was performed to examine the expression of 4 mRNAs. CEACAM5, DHRS3, and RGS16 possess CpG islands that are methylated in breast and other types of cancer. CBX5 possesses a CpG island that is hypomethylated in MCF-7 cells. Assays were performed on three biological replicates. Error bars represent the S.D. p values were calculated using Student's t test.
