The multivariate logistic regression model adjusted for age and gender was used to obtain the odds ratio (OR), 95% confidence interval and the p-value (P). Values for haemopexin, total plasma haem (TPH), plasma free haem (PFH) and bilirubin were log-transformed to normalize skewed distributions of the raw data. Significant P values are noted (*).
