For propofol, the control experiment sets 6 different burst suppression target levels, evenly spaced from 0.15 to 0.9, and tracks them using the model and control parameters (Table 2) for Patients 1 and 6 (Fig. 7). In the first experiments (A, B) control is achieved assuming that the observable is x2,k, the brain level of propofol. In the second experiments (C,D) control is achieved by estimating x2,k∣k the brain level of propofol from the BSP filter in Eq. (8a). Control with the BSP filter is demonstrated with 10 binary series realizations at each of the 6 levels.
