When LtxA was added to 5 mM liposome suspensions of either DPC or N-m-DOPE, a decrease in Trp intensity was observed for all protein:lipid ratios (which ranged from 2×10-4 to 2×10-3), indicating that one or more of the Trp residues moved toward a more hydrophilic region and suggesting that LtxA adopted an active conformation.
