Bactericidal activity of the unfractionated PBMC cultures recovered from healthy cows (n = 5) or cows naturally infected with M. avium subsp. paratuberculosis (n = 9). PBMC culture medium was replaced with complete medium on day 6. After 18 h, cells in culture were infected with live M. avium subsp. paratuberculosis at a bacterium-to-adherent cell ratio of 10:1. Data shown are the numbers of viable bacteria represented by the mean numbers of CFU ± standard errors of the means (error bars) recovered from cell culture lysates and supernatants 6 days after in the vitro infection with M. avium subsp. paratuberculosis.
