Classifications were based of presence of hemozoin (H) and Plasmodium (P) parasites. MN = mononuclear cell. Two cases were classified according to some of the authors, but correspondence with others could not be made.

Cases failing to meet criteria for a specific classification according to Rogerson and others;26 they had hemozoin in monocytes and absence of parasites.
