Dilation of LV was prevented in the unloaded group, which was indicated by the LV end-diastolic volume (LVEDV) (A) and LV end-systolic volume (LVESV) (B). The LV ejection fraction (LVEF) value decreased less in the MI + LVAD group compared with the MI group at 12 weeks (C). Regional contractile strain at 12 week calculated by sonomicrometry showed that the myocardial contractility in the adjacent zone was conserved in the MI + LVAD group and remained almost normal in the remote zone (D). The length of wall motion abnormality evaluated by echocardiography (E) and infarct size at necropsy (F) showed that the MI + LVAD group had significantly smaller infarct size than the MI group. #p < 0.05 compared with the baseline; *p < 0.05 compared with the MI group.
