Growth on 3-sulfinopropionate (3SP). Cells of the wild-type V. paradoxus strain TBEA6, the V. paradoxus TBEA6 Δact mutant, the transposon-induced mutant V. paradoxus TBEA6 1/1, and the V. paradoxus mutant 1/1 harboring pBBR1MCS-5::acdDPN7 were precultivated in liquid MSM containing 50 mM sodium gluconate, supplied with gentamicin if necessary. Prior to inoculation of the main culture, cells were harvested and washed twice with sterile saline.
