Comparison of OTRs of strains G. oxydans Δupp (A) and G. oxydans Δupp ΔcyoBACD (B) in mannitol medium at 30°C under oxygen-limited conditions. The 250-ml unbaffled flasks contained 20 ml, 30 ml, 40 ml, or 60 ml of medium and were shaken at 200 rpm with a shaking diameter of 50 mm. The maximal OTR values obtained for the reference strain were 21.0, 15.0, 12.5, and 9.0 mmol liter⁻¹ h⁻¹, and those for the cyo deletion mutant were 18.5, 14.5, 11.5, 8.5 mmol liter⁻¹ h⁻¹, respectively.
