Oxygen consumption of G. oxydans Δupp, G. oxydans Δupp ΔcyoBACD, and G. oxydans Δupp ΔcydAB in a respirometer with an electrochemical oxygen electrode. Experimental conditions were as follows: complex medium with 40 g liter⁻¹ mannitol; room temperature. The OD₆₀₀ was adjusted to 0.3 for all strains. The circles show the dissolved oxygen tension where the oxygen consumption rate started to decrease. The experiments were conducted in triplicate with comparable results, and one experiment for each strain is shown here.
