Session 1: Asthma management and barriers:
What are some reasons why kids don’t manage their asthma very well, like take their asthma medications like they are supposed to? [Probe for: lack of knowledge, lack of access to medication, lack of motivation, lack of perceived response efficacy]
Session 2: Developmental issues:
How has the management of your asthma changed since you were a kid? [Probes: What are you doing the same? What are you doing differently?]
Session 3: Support for asthma care:
How are the following people involved with your asthma care? [Probes: parents, siblings, other family members, friends, teachers, coaches, doctor, school nurse]
Session 4: Intervention preferences:
What word would you use to describe something that is cool?
Session 5: Critique of existing materials:
[Lay out sample brochures]. Nobody took the asthma brochures we made! What did we do wrong? How should we change them? [Probe for: color, size, title, content, pictures.] [Probe: Should they be on paper, on DVD, on CD, on the web?]
