Based on this concept activation of the long form of the leptin receptor (OBRb) results in the dimerization and translocation of STAT3 into the nucleus where it activates the protease cathepsin L resulting in the proteolytic processing of p200CUX to the shorter p75 and p110 CUX1 proteins. The latter upregulates FTO resulting in the hypertrophic response. Please see Discussion for details.
