Area of neovascularization is reduced in ATF4^+/− OIR mice. Neovascularized and avascular areas in C57BL/6 OIR (n = 5) and ATF4^+/− OIR (n = 5) retinas were calculated for P17 retinal flat mounts. The ratio of neovascularization or avascular area to total examined area for individual retinas was used. A 15% reduction in new blood vessel formation and a 2.0-fold increase in the avascular area were detected in genetically modified retinas (***P < 0.001). The ratio of experimental group to control group is presented. Control groups are indicated with a dashed line.
