PI3K1 and PI3K2, but not PI3K4, are required to form PtdIns(3,4,5)P3 patches in the plasma membrane. (A) PtdIns(3,4,5)P3 patches are formed by Ax2 and PI3K4 cells, but PI3K(1-2) cells do not form any such structures. Very rarely, labelled vesicles can be observed in these cells, but they do not seem to derive from the plasma membrane.
