Preembedding immunogold staining for d-serine at glia–neuron interfaces in rat cerebral cortex. A, Low-magnification shows that immunogold-positive particles (arrows) are detected in astrocytic processes surrounding asymmetric synapses. High magnifications reveal that d-serine is associated with vesicle-like structures located in astrocytic processes facing the asymmetric synapses.
