Rats in the different groups were treated as described in Figure 1. Serum levels of H₂S were assayed in the animals after 4 h of reperfusion. Rats that received a preconditioning dose of 12.5, 25 or 50 μmol/kg NaHS displayed significantly increased serum levels of H₂S compared to rats in the I/R group. At least six rats were included in each study group. The results are expressed as the mean ± SD. * P < 0.05 versus I/R.
