Sensing magnetic flux density of the thoracic cage with a MEMS device during respiratory and cardiac activity. A, Diagram of the experimental arrangement. A MEMS magnetic field sensor was introduced within the open thoracic cage of an anesthetized and ventilated rat. C and D, Power spectrum density (PSD) calculated from the EMG and from the magnetic flux density, respectively. We found a significant coherence (E) between these rectified and integrated electric and magnetic signals at the respiratory frequency.
