Certification at 2 years is a dichotomous indicator of any certificates in early childhood education or related fields (other areas of education, nursing, social work, or psychology).
Certification at 4 years is a continuous variable the sum of five indicators of whether the teacher had various coursework or credentials in early childhood education.
