Potential sources of TMS-related artifacts in TMS-fNIRS and TMS-EROS experiments. A TMS pulse may (A) introduce interference or noise within the optical imaging instrumentation, (B) cause movement of the subject and/or optical fibers, (C) induce changes in the absorption and scattering properties of superficial tissue of the scalp and skull, or (D) induce neural activations through auditory or somatosensory stimulation.
