LpxH catalyzes the fourth step in lipid A biosynthesis. UDP-DAGn is synthesized by LpxA, LpxC, and LpxD. Hydrolysis of the molecule by LpxH yields 2,3-diacylglucosamine 1-phosphate (lipid X) and UMP. Lipid X is then condensed with a molecule of UDP-DAGn by LpxB to form disaccharide 1-phosphate and UDP. Following steps of the pathway involve the conversion of disaccharide 1-phosphate to Kdo2-lipid A by LpxK, KdtA, LpxL, and LpxM.
