Fungiform papillae are located on the anterior tongue and innervated by the chorda tympani (CT) branch of cranial nerve VII. The circumvallate papilla is located on the posterior tongue and innervated by the glossopharyngeal nerve (GL), cranial nerve IX. Horizontal lines indicate that groups under the line were not significantly different from one another. All other comparisons were significant (p<.05).
