Change in AUDIT grade at follow-up in subjects with a red/amber or green STL test result.

1-year follow-up was obtained in 303/393 (77%) subjects, of whom 240/303 (79%) were hazardous drinkers (AUDIT ≥8) and 63/303 (21%) harmful/dependent drinkers. Subjects given a positive (red/amber) test result were more likely to reduce their drinking (50% versus 35%, P = 0.011) by at least one AUDIT category, with the highest levels of behaviour change seen in very heavy drinkers (65% versus 35%, P = 0.017).
