PHA-activated CD4+ T cells under serum-deprived conditions were treated with HD5 at different concentrations for 24 h before staining with Annexin V and PI. Activated CD4+ T cells were also exposed to defensin-treated HIV-1_JR-FL for 2 h, washed and then treated with HD5. Apoptosis was determined by FACS analysis. Similar results were obtained using cells from two independent donors.
