Spots are quantified using the method described above, with VGAT and VGLUT2 pre-synaptic spots being within 1 μm of a GABA-A α1 receptor subunit or PSD-95 spot respectively. Data presented as mean ± SEM. Below, we quantify the number of spots of each type found in our sample at representative parts of the motor neuron; there is a higher proportion of inhibitory synapses found on the soma and proximal dendrites (PDs), while there is a higher proportion of excitatory synapses found on the distal dendrites.
