Figure 4. — DNA sequence analysis at the B1 and NTS2 loci. Polymorphic sites that exist between the archetypal Type I, II, and III lineages were compared with sequences obtained from PCR-amplified parasite DNA from the aqueous humor of 8 OT patients. The consensus sequence was defined as the nucleotide common to at least 2 of the 3 archetypes. Periods (.) indicate identity with the consensus sequence. The numerical positions annotated refer to the numbered sites in the published GenBank sequences AF179871 for B1 and AF158092 for NTS2. The serotype for each sample was recorded beside the allele identified and multilocus genotypes established. Abbreviations: ATYP; atypical (nonarchetypal) genotype; NR, nonreactive; OT, ocular toxoplasmosis; PCR, polymerase chain reaction.
