One tweeted response to a World Health Day 2012 image featuring Helmut Wirz – a man of more than 80 years serenely bungee jumping – reminds us that sexual health continues to be a concern for women and men well beyond the reproductive years. The surprise and delight that this “tweet” elicits arise because the subject of sexuality in older people remains largely taboo in many cultures. Unfortunately, this cultural denial results in a failure to address many issues associated with sexual health in older age.
