Cholesterol esterification is dependent on lipoprotein availability. Cells were seeded at a concentration of 2.0 × 10⁵ cells/ml and grown for 72 h in medium constituted respectively of BCS, LDBCS, LDBCS+HDL (250 μg/ml), and LDBCS+LDL (100 μg/ml). Four hours before the end of incubation cells were labeled with 37 KBq of [¹⁴C]oleic acid and the amount of [¹⁴C]oleate incorporated into CEs was determined as described in the Methods. Data were reported as mean ± SD. *P < 0.0001 versus all (Newman-Keuls as post hoc test).
