FIGURE 4.

A, photocurrents generated by PsChR expressed in an HEK293 cell in response to a pair of 1-s light pulses (440 nm, saturating intensity) delivered with a 1-s dark interval. Current was normalized to the peak value of the first signal. The illumination protocol is shown schematically on top. B, the time course of the recovery of the transient component of the signal measured with PsChR (black squares) or CrChR2 (open circles). Recovery was calculated as the ratio of the differences between the peak and the plateau values measured in response to the second and the first pulse. Recovery percentage is plotted against the time interval between the pulses. The data are the mean values of measurements in three to five cells.
